NovaHealth Management Team

The NovaHealth management team, comprised of members from the InterMed and PrimeCare physician and management leadership, provides the skills, knowledge and experience required to set, direct and execute Nova’s strategic plan. The training and experience of the key players within the organization are outlined below. The synergy created by the combination of talents makes NovaHealth uniquely qualified to affect the quality of care delivered and move payers in the direction of value based purchasing.

Elizabeth N. Collet, Executive Director of NovaHealth, brings national experience brokering profitable relationships between major payers and physician groups, utilizing practice management experience, legal training and analytical and communication skills. She also contributes local knowledge of the healthcare environment from her experience with InterMed, Joseph Bean Associates and the Health Law Group of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer and Nelson. Libby received her law degree from Boston University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.


Thomas F. Claffey, M.D., Co-Medical Director of NovaHealth, Member of NovaHealth Operations Committee and Nova Manager, currently serves as the President of InterMed. His experience as an internist and an infectious disease specialist, allows him to view issues from both the primary care and specialty perspective. Dr. Claffey also serves as the Director of the Infectious Disease Division of Maine Medical Center, the Medical Director of New England Life Care and was previously a member of the Quality Assurance Committee of the American Society of Internal Medicine.


Michael Albaum, M.D., Co-Medical Director of NovaHealth, Member of NovaHealth Operations Committee and Nova Manager, currently serves as the Medical Director of PrimeCare. In addition to his internal medicine practice, Mike serves as the Southern Maine Medical Director for Medical Network.


James Harrison, a Member of the NovaHealth Operations Committee, and Chief Executive Officer of PrimeCare, contributes a high level of experience and understanding of the players and market forces in the Maine healthcare landscape. Jim has a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Hampshire and a strong background in health care finance. In addition to extensive experience in practice management, he has served as Financial Analyst and later Operations Manager with New England Medical Center in Boston and as Director of Physician Services for Miles Health Care in Damariscotta. He is currently a member of the Medical Group Management Association and the Maine Medical Association Payor Liaison Committee.


Daniel P. McCormack, a Member of the NovaHealth Operations Committee, and Chief Executive Officer of InterMed, received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Harvard and is pursuing his MBA at the University of Southern Maine. Dan brings to the team a unique understanding of the payer perspective having served at Anthem BCBS as Executive Director of Provider Network Management. Dan also has practice management expertise having worked at the David Grant USAF Medical Center and the Bolling Air Force Base Medical Group. Dan is a highly regarded leader in the Maine health care arena and his ability to broker relationships and seek opportunities for collaboration is valued by the IPA. He currently serves on the Board of Medical Care Development.


Anne Hindley, Professional Relations Representative for NovaHealth, focuses much of her time working with the participating groups and payers to streamline administrative processes. She comes to us with proven experience from working at major insurers. Anne also chairs the Payer Issues Committee, which operates to define, focus and improve areas of concern relative to payment and administrative issues.


Ken Shumard, Physician Intel, LLC, provides Nova with data analysis and actuarial support key in contract negotiations, contract auditing and assessment and quantifying the impact of quality initiatives. In addition, Physician Intel offers to participating Nova providers, an array of tools to assist physicians in measuring and maximizing physician compensation.
